Working with local communities to develop language solutions that expand possibilities for a better life
SIL Ethiopia is committed to helping language communities build up the resources and expertise they require to develop and sustain their languages in the future.
From surveying languages and dialects to working out how languages might best be written, we help lay a firm foundation for the further development of a language in education, literacy and translation.

Through local language literacy programmes we aim to empower local language experts, teachers and government agencies to deliver literacy programmes in their mother tongue. We work in partnership with local speakers to produce written materials to support the development of reading, writing and numeracy skills in the mother tongue.
